Discovering the Dream
Two Wheel Africa Tours by Sandi Langton
I started SMI with my life coach Cath just over a year ago. I'd just arrived back after achieving an epic motorbike journey from London to Cape Town and should have been feeling really smug with myself for having achieved such a monumental goal. I also had a book published, but instead I felt unsettled. I felt unhappy in my own skin every day that I tried to do the nine-to-five day job and fit into what I felt I should be. On the outside everything was perfect and yet inside nothing was.
So my first step was really finding myself. I went through torturous nights lying awake; I read numerous books and started keeping a "finding the dream" diary. During this time I did massive renovations on my house and some how, by the end of the renovations, it was clear to me that my destiny was to be a free-spirited biker chick and run my own bike tour business. It was clear that I had to do what I was passionate about and that was: travel and motorbikes.
The great news is that I'm now working full-time on my bike tour business which I've called Two Wheel Africa Tours. I'm starting small with tours leaving from Cape Town and going up to Namibia but the grand plan is to run motorbike tours across Southern Africa. I'm keeping my overheads down and working on reliable supplier relationships that will enable me to grow the business in time.
I can't for a moment kid myself that this will be easy. Every day I find new obstacles and go about finding ways to overcome them. BUT by the summer season, I should be up and running - and then really ready for all those tourists in 2010.
Who knows where to next? Perhaps another big bike trip of my own.
